The Cerro Gordo County absentee team met earlier this week to count write-in votes from this year’s city/school election.
In the city of Swaledale, the mayor’s seat and two city council seats were decided by write-in votes. The Cerro Gordo County Auditor’s Office tells RadioOnTheGo News current council member Darwin Hanson received the most write-in votes for mayor and has been elected to serve as Swaledale’s next mayor.
Meanwhile, Darwin Johnson, also a current council member, secured another term on the city council through write-in votes.
The second city council seat was decided by a tiebreaker. Roger Myhre won the spot after a drawing was used to determine the winner between tied candidates, as required by Iowa election procedures.
There were 27 votes cast for Swaledale Mayor and 46 votes cast for the two open council seats.
