Republican U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley of New Hartford wrapped up his 45th annual tour of Iowa’s 99 counties Thursday with a stop in West Bend, along with stops in Akron, Sheldon and Rock Rapids, continuing a tradition that brings him face-to-face with residents across the state.

Grassley said his yearly visits help him stay grounded in the concerns of the people he serves. “Representative government is a two-way street,” he remarked, “I’m one half of the process, and the people of Iowa are the other. My 99 county meetings allow me to meet with a large cross-section of Iowans from different walks of life, including students, manufacturers, health care providers and more.”

At this year’s meetings, attendees raised issues ranging from PBMs and health care to the Farm Bill, energy, taxes and immigration. Many also voiced hopes for greater transparency and bipartisan cooperation in Washington.

Grassley has been holding his annual county meetings since his election to the U.S. Senate. For the past 45 years, he has held at least one question-and-answer session in each of Iowa’s 99 counties every year.
