Aplington City Council Recap from Nov. 12

The Aplington City Council met Wednesday, Nov. 12, at City Hall and acted on several items.

The council approved a building permit for First Reformed Church. Library Director Alexis Karsjens reported on state accreditation work, a Veterans Day exhibit, Story Time, and other programs that brought in 536 participants in October.

Ambulance representative Francis Krull asked the council to add Mandy McCord to the EMT crew. The council approved the request, noting McCord will complete the required EMT training.

Council members also approved the renewal of the city’s Wellmark health insurance plan, which includes a 10.5 percent premium increase beginning Jan. 1.

In other business, Katie Labree with Butler County REC outlined a planned 9.52 percent wholesale electric rate increase from Basin effective Jan. 1, 2026. The council tabled action until December, when a public hearing will be held.
