The Alden City Council covered a mix of insurance, economic, and community concerns during Monday night’s regular meeting.
Council members heard from Michelle Nederhoff of Green Belt Insurance Services, who outlined health insurance renewal options for city employees. Staff will meet next month to review plan choices, with the council expected to approve a final policy on December 15.
During public input, IFADC’s Mark Buschkamp shared results of a business-needs survey conducted in Iowa Falls, showing high demand for accounting and financial services, IT specialists, and legal services. He also reported that Builders First Source will permanently close on January 30, 2026.
Hardin County Chief Deputy James Holmes briefed the council on evolving regulations for electric scooters, noting the Iowa Attorney General’s guidance is still in early stages and lacks clarity.
Residents also brought several concerns to the council, including the need to winterize pool equipment, challenges finding contractors for a campground water installation project, and a large pothole at River Drive and Main Street that may require a concrete fix.
