Clarksville Girls Basketball Will Seek to Play Uptempo

clarksville-4

The Clarksville girl basketball team has begun preseason practices. The Indians last year finished 14-10 overall. Returning everyday starters include seniors Paige Kampman and Hannah Wangsness. Head Coach Ross Timmermans shares that the senior duo brings more than just production to the floor.

“Excited about what they can bring to the table and have brought to the table for the last three years. They’re really excited about their senior year. We couldn’t be more than excited to have them lead the way for us,” says Timmermans. “Paige and Hannah both do so much. They stuff the stat sheet but they also do a lot of the intangibles that really drive a ship for a program and for a team. They’re doing the little things right and the little things always end up making the biggest differences.”

Kampman led the team in points per game (21.7), and added 4.6 rebounds per game and 80 steals. Wangsness had 9.8 points per game and had team best marks in rebounds per game (11.5) and steals (87) last season. Juniors Kara Bohlen and Capri Clark and sophomore Eve Jordan return with varsity experience off the bench and will look to take on expanded roles this season. Timmermans highlights the pace of play the team is striving for.

“We kind of build what we do based around our defensive effort, defensive play and our positioning. We’re going to look to push the tempo, get up and down, and play a full 32 minutes,” says Timmermans. “In the past four or five years, we’ve averaged in the 40s. We’re looking to maybe bump that up a little bit and try to get to the 50s. We just want to get that tempo up, push the ball and score a few more points in the paint.”

Clarksville will host West Hancock in their season opener on Tuesday, November 25.
