Gov. Kim Reynolds has signed a new proclamation temporarily increasing weight allowances for the transportation of grain, fertilizer and manure across Iowa. The order took effect today and remains in place through Dec. 19, 2025.
Under the proclamation, vehicles hauling corn, soybeans, soybean meal, hay, straw, silage, stover, fertilizer in any form, and both dry and liquid manure may operate overweight — up to 90,000 pounds gross weight — without a special permit.
The increased limits apply to all Iowa highways except the interstate system. The loads must not exceed 90,000 pounds, cannot surpass the state’s non-primary highway axle weight limits by more than 12.5 percent, must stay under the legal maximum axle weight of 20,000 pounds, and must follow all posted road and bridge restrictions.
The governor’s office says the proclamation is intended to support farmers and haulers during the busy fall and early-winter transport season.
