A record-setting amount of unclaimed money and assets has been turned over to the Great Iowa Treasure Hunt, Iowa’s unclaimed property program.
State Treasurer Roby Smith says more than $71.7 million in unclaimed property was added ahead of the Nov. 1 reporting deadline.
Smith says this is an ideal time for Iowans to search their names — even if they’ve claimed property before.
During the latest reporting cycle, the state received 549,842 new properties totaling over $71.7 million, breaking the previous record set in 2024 by more than 110,000 properties and $6 million.
To date, the Great Iowa Treasure Hunt has returned more than $416 million to rightful owners and heirs.
Past and present Iowans can search for unclaimed cash, stocks or safe deposit box contents by visiting GreatIowaTreasureHunt.gov.
