
A traffic incident occurred at the intersection of 3rd Street Northwest and North Washington Avenue in Mason City Tuesday afternoon, involving a 2017 Glaval transit bus. The Iowa State Patrol says the bus, driven by 79-year-old Ralph Madison of Mason City, was facing westbound before turning southbound at the intersection.
At the same time, a pedestrian, 68-year-old Francis Hanig of Rockwell, was walking in the marked crosswalk on the south side of the intersection. The bus failed to yield to the pedestrian when it turned south and struck Hanig with the front of the vehicle. Hanig was transported by Mason City Ambulance to MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center for treatment.
The Mason City Police Department also responded to the accident. The Iowa State Patrol reports that the incident remains under investigation.
