Varsity girls basketball returns to the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows gym this season after the school fielded only a junior varsity team in the 2024-25 campaign.

Adding to the changes, the Cowgirls will also have a new head coach, Ashley Kahler. Kahler is new to the community and says one of her first priorities has been to establish a strong player-coach relationship.

“I’m just meeting the girls,” says Kahler. “I’m new to this community, so they have no idea who I am and I have no idea who they are. So just getting to know the girls. We held some open gyms this summer, so I got to know a few of them, but just getting that relationship built between coach and player and just seeing who the girls are.”

As the program begins its rebuild, Kahler says the players’ early mindset has been encouraging.

“All of them have brought in a great attitude,” says Kahler. “They’re willing to work. They’ve answered every question that I have for them and they’ve stepped up to the challenges. I think our big focus is fundamentals and just rebuilding what this team can be. And we have 17 girls, but we have quite a bit of younger classmates on the team too. And, some skill levels that are just starting out.”

The Cowgirls will compete in the North Central Conference and field a roster of two seniors, two juniors, ten sophomores and three freshmen.
