Hampton City Council Weighs Potential Updates to Chicken Regulations

The Hampton City Council spent its Thursday workshop reviewing its city code related to allowing chickens within city limits. Topics discussed included property size requirements, coop and chicken-run dimensions, fencing, limiting ownership to hens only, maximum flock size, egg sales, property inspections, and prohibiting chickens at properties with a nuisance conviction in the past year.

Chicken owners Butch and Jennifer Gruelke and Sarah Kolb attended the workshop and gave their input on what they would like to see in a possible ordinance.

The council agreed to continue the discussion at its next workshop on December 8th, giving members additional time to research possible provisions for a proposed ordinance before it is reviewed by an attorney.
