Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will host the in-season manure application with irrigation field day December 4th at the Klemme Public Library and Brent Renner’s farm, near Klemme. Those involved in manure management are encouraged to attend and learn about innovative strategies designed to address nutrient water quality issues stemming from agriculture

The field day will also demonstrate an autonomous machine, the 360 RAIN, which applies irrigation or diluted manure to the base of a growing crop throughout the season. Kapil Arora is a field agricultural engineer with ISU Extension and Outreach and says this event is a three-year wrap-up of a research project of the 360 RAIN machine.

“Depending on the weather, we have some result data from this project to share with everybody on this field day. And now that the farming season for 2025 is nearly over, we are hoping that folks will be able to join us and look at this device in action. We’ll actually do application in the field as well. Understand that this is after harvest, but it gives a better idea on how the machine operates when we can look at it all the way through from top to bottom. It’s a high clearance device that can clear tasseled corn.”

The field day will begin with a presentation at the Klemme Library at 11:30 a.m. on December 4th. After the presentation, field demonstrations of the 360 RAIN will be held at the farm.

Those attending are asked to register by December 1st by contacting the ISU Extension and Outreach Hancock County Office at 641-923-2856 or emailing xhancock@iastate.edu.
