The Clarksville girls basketball team will defend their home court against West Hancock in non-conference for their season opener on Tuesday.
Clarksville went 14-10 last season. Seniors Paige Kampman and Hannah Wangsness set the tone on both ends of the floor for the team. Kampman led the team in points per game (21.7), and added 4.6 rebounds and 3.3 steals per game. Wangsness had 9.8 points per game and had team best marks in rebounds (11.5) and steals (3.6) per game last season. Head Coach Ross Timmermans.
“It’s gonna be a big time test. We traveled all the way out to Britt last year in January and played a tough battle. We’re excited about not having to take that trip this year. They return everybody. I know they’re gonna be a good solid team. They’re well coached,” says Timmermans. “We’re really looking forward to the challenge before Thanksgiving, which doesn’t normally happen for us. Usually we’re a December 1st, 2nd type team. Playing that early one, we’ll get a good feel of where we’re at and hopefully a good benchmark into the rest of the season.”
West Hancock went 10-12 last season. Senior Meara Kudej returns as the Eagles leading scorer and rebounder with 13.6 points and five rebounds per game last season. Senior Payton Whipple added 6.5 points per game as the second leading scorer.
West Hancock won last year’s meeting 41-35 in Britt.
Tip off is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. in Clarksville.
