High-energy early-season action unfolded Tuesday night in Mason City, where the Iowa Falls-Alden and North Butler-Clarksville girls’ wrestling teams battled through the brackets at the Riverhawk Early Bird Invitational, which hosted 12 teams.

In the team standings, Iowa Falls-Alden placed fourth with 105 points. North Butler-Clarksville finished with 30.

Iowa Falls-Alden’s Brooklyn Gehling led the effort at 135 pounds, earning pins over Mason City’s Shiloh Sabin and Crestwood’s Lexus Dohlman to reach the championship match. Gehling finished as the runner-up after a loss by fall to Clear Lake’s Pieper Lester.

At 140, IF-A’s Aubree Silvey also advanced to the finals, pinning her way through the bracket before taking Mason City’s Charlene Prazak the distance in a decision loss to place second. Lauryn Silvey also wrestled her way to a fourth-place finish for IF-A.

North Butler-Clarksville’s Nadelyn Stanbrough added a fourth-place finish at 140. She opened with a pin, dropped her second match, and fought back through the consolation bracket before falling to Madi Fritcher-Larson of Crestwood.

North Butler’s Alexa Gott picked up a major decision win while competing at 170 pounds, which did not feature a full bracket. IF-A’s Sofia Orozco and Madison Fisher recorded two pins each while also competing in weight classes that did not feature a full bracket.

Both teams return to action in the second week of December.
