With the holiday season — and a fridge full of Thanksgiving leftovers — Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is reminding residents that the AnswerLine is ready to help. Whether you’re wondering how long to safely keep turkey, stuffing or cranberry sauce, or need advice on cooking, cleaning or food storage, trained home economists and family scientists are only a call away.

“The AnswerLine actually, if you haven’t heard about it or anything like that, it’s been actually around for more than 50 years. And it provides information and resources for Iowans and even those residents in Minnesota and Wisconsin can also use the service to answer home and family questions.”

Staff answer questions on everything from food preservation and safety to household equipment, laundry and consumer management. The AnswerLine is funded by Extension services in Iowa, Minnesota and South Dakota, and is open Monday–Friday, 9 a.m. to noon and 1–4 p.m.

Iowans can call 1-800-262-3804; or email answer@iastate.edu.
