After the departure of last year’s two state qualifiers, the North Butler-Clarksville boys wrestling team begins a new season with 25-28 wrestlers in the room, preparing to begin their journey to be the next to qualify. Head Coach Adam Holm.

“It’s really big for us. We’re just trying to get everybody on the same page, especially with kids coming from other schools. We have not just Clarksville coming over now, but we have got some Rockford kids,” says Holm. “We’re in a small program and we’re trying to get them on the same wavelength we’re on. We’re trying to get everybody consistent with how we roll for over here at NBC. It’s turning out pretty good. We’re pleased with the numbers and we’re pleased with how some of these kids are buying into the program.”

Top returners include sophomore Maddox Morrison who went 41-11 between 126 and 132. Junior Jack Bartels who went 26-21 between 144 and 150. Sophomore Evan McCormick who went 26-29 between 150 and 157 last season.

“We have the talent to be really good. They just have to trust what we’re showing them and what we’re teaching them. I think it’ll turn out really well,” says Holm. “Down the road, we’re hoping for quite a few possible qualifiers, depending on how the season goes. If they put the work in, we can definitely compete with some of bigger schools. We’re really pleased with that.”

North Butler-Clarksville will begin their season with a Top of Iowa Conference quad at Osage on Thursday, December 4. The event will air on 99 The Wave.
