With the season’s first major winter storm now behind us, the National Weather Service in Des Moines says bitter cold and another round of snow are on the way for Iowa this week. Morning lows will drop into the single digits, and wind chills are expected to fall near or below zero, especially across northern Iowa.

Temperatures remain cold through midweek. Highs on Tuesday and Wednesday stay in the 20s, with a slight chance of snow Wednesday. The coldest air arrives Wednesday night, with lows plunging to around 10 below zero. Thursday will be sunny but frigid, with a high near 8 degrees. Conditions moderate slightly by Friday, with highs returning to the 20s.
