The Rowan City Council met Monday night and addressed several items, including road maintenance, abandoned properties and community projects.

During public input, Wright County Economic Development Director Darrel Steven Carlyle introduced his successor, Aaron Budweg, as Carlyle prepares to retire at the end of the year.

Council members reviewed a county maintenance report showing just over a half a mile of gravel road at the town’s edges currently maintained by Wright County at an annual cost of about $2,700. The maintenance could either be done by the city or through a 28E agreement with the county. The council directed the clerk to gather more information, including estimates from Mountain Movers and possible Farm-to-Market funding, before making a decision. The item was tabled until January.

The city has also been awarded ownership of two abandoned properties at 135 and 138 Main St. The clerk was instructed to begin drafting a contract and bid materials with the city attorney.

In other business, council members noted that additional work on the outdoor classroom project will wait until spring.

The clerk administered the oath of office to Mayor Dale Hollman and council members Virgil Park, Chad Ketchum and David Eriksen.
