RADIO IOWA: Grassley raises legal concerns about US attack on Venezuelan boat

Remarks by Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa “Whistleblower Appreciation Day” Wednesday, July 30, 2025

Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley, a lifelong farmer from Butler County, says he’s not yet sure if he will be included in a select group of lawmakers who will receive a classified briefing Thursday from a U.S. admiral on the deadly attack on a Venezuelan boat in the Caribbean Sea. The boat was suspected of carrying drugs, and all on board were killed in the September strike.

Grassley says he has concerns about the legality of the incident, noting that details remain limited. Grassley says his concerns are “related to what the law says,” adding, “I expect all American law to be followed.”

The Republican who chairs the Senate Armed Services Committee is demanding that the panel be granted full access to the military’s audio and video recordings of the attack.
