Iowa Falls-Alden aims for first wins in matchup with Hawks

The Iowa Falls-Alden basketball teams will look to get on the winning track when they host South Hamilton on Thursday.

The Cadet girls enter the matchup after a 63-50 loss to West Marshall in their season opener. Speaking before the season began, Head Coach Michael Collison emphasized that the program is focused on long-term development — an approach that still applies as the Cadets prepare for South Hamilton.

“As far as it goes with our team, you know, we’re not concerned about like those short-term victories,” says Collison. “We’re concerned about long-term growth. And so, you know, I feel like if every night we’re, building good habits, we’re on the trajectory we need to be on for sure.”

South Hamilton is also looking for its first win after falling to South Central Calhoun in its opener.

The Cadet boys come into Thursday’s game following a 54-35 loss to West Marshall in their season opener. South Hamilton finished winless last season and are still searching for their first victory of the 2025-26 campaign. Head Coach Mike Holm says the Cadets shouldn’t overlook the Hawks despite last year’s record.

“I know South Hamilton has improved,” says Holm. “They’ve added a few kids and like you said, they’ve got a little more experience, so I expect that to be a little more of a battle than it was last year.”

The doubleheader is set to begin at 6 p.m.
