The Clarion City Council met Tuesday evening and heard several updates on community projects and needs. Wright County Economic Development Director Darrel Steven Carlyle introduced his successor, Aaron Budweg, and Amanda Rosenkilde outlined the Rural Housing Readiness Assessment Grant, which will require a city representative and additional community input.

Recreation Director Scott Simmons reported progress at Lions Park, including leveled ball diamonds and a new pavilion funded by $48,000 in donations secured by the late Rich Bordwell. He also noted a decline in youth groups using local gym space.

The Clarion Volunteer Fire Department asked about next steps toward a new fire station. City Administrator Clint Middleton reviewed funding limitations, building standards and the likelihood that fundraising will be needed.

The council approved naming the Wright County Monitor as the city’s official newspaper. Newly elected officials, including Mayor Rod Heiden and four council members, read their oaths of office.
