The North Butler-Clarksville boys wrestling team will compete in their first duals of the new season as part of Top of Iowa Conference quad at Osage on Thursday. The duals will air on 99 The Wave. North Union and Northwood-Kensett will also compete.

North Butler-Clarksville sophomore Maddox Morrison went 41-11 at 126 and 132, junior Jack Bartels went 26-21 at 144 and 150, and sophomore Evan McCormick went 26-29 at 150 and 157 last season. Head Coach Adam Holm shares what their first opponents will bring to the mat.

“It’s definitely going to be a measuring stick for us. Osage is always tough. They bring a lot of experience and a lot of hard work to the mat when they step out on it. We’re looking to see where we stand with them. Hopefully we can compete and kind of give them more of run for their money. We did that a couple of years. We just want to keep doing that,” says Holm. “We have North Union too. They have quite a few kids. I think we’ll compete with them really well too.”

Osage’s returning top performers include senior Blake Fox who went 55-0 at 144 and was an individual state champion. Junior Gavin Muller went 43-5 at 175 and finished third individually at state. Junior Jasper Sonberg went 40-15 at 126 and was also a state individual qualifier last season.

North Union’s top returners include junior Max Merrill who went 33-16 at 175 and 190 and was an individual state qualifier at 175. Junior Jackson Hutchinson went 28-23 at 132 and 138 last season.

Northwood-Kensett’s top returners include senior Alex Tiedemann who went 45-4 at 165 and was an individual state qualifier. Senior Linca Scarlett went 29-19 at 120 and 126 last season.

Coverage on 99 The Wave will begin at 6:00 p.m. with the first dual.
