The Dike-New Hartford wrestling team will begin its season Thursday by joining Hudson at a triangular at Oelwein.
They’ll begin the season with returning state qualifier Gavin Gerbracht and some other veteran wrestlers. Gerbracht went 40-11 at 150, Lane Girsch went 13-5 at 285, and Dax Weedman was 29-13 at 144, among notable performers last season. Head Coach Tony Norton says there’s strong potential with the lineup.
“We’ve got 10, 11 practices under our belt and we’re seeing some good things,” Norton says. “We have a pretty high ceiling this year, I think, but we’re pretty young, very young actually. We have a lot of room for growth. But the kids have been working really hard, coming in with good attitudes. We wanna make sure we’re correcting some of those errors that we’re making, of course. And like I said, we just wanna keep improving every day. We’ve got to get stronger, we got to get faster, we got to get quicker, we got to be tougher. Everything that every coach says, I’m sure, we’re working on.”
It’ll start at 6:15 p.m.
