The West Fork boys wrestling team went 0-2 at a season opening Top of Iowa Conference triangular at West Hancock on Thursday. The Warhawks fell 50-18 to West Hancock and 51-21 to Saint Ansgar.

In their dual against West Hancock, four bouts were decided by forfeit. The Warhawks scored their team points on three open weight forfeits. The Eagles won six matches by fall, one by technical fall, one by decision and one by forfeit.

In their dual against Saint Ansgar, five bouts were decided by open weight forfeits. Bradynn Hennick won by fall at 150 and Andrew Baker won by a 13-6 decision at 165. The Warhawks also earned team points on two open weight forfeits. The Saints won five matches by fall, three by forfeit and one by decision. Head Coach Keaton Wilson shares the mentality the team is working towards.

“High intensity, heavy hands, wear your opponent out. Wear him out through the first two periods. Then when that third period rolls around, you see him out of breath, that’s when you go, you don’t let off the gas,” says Wilson. “It’s a different mentality. I want them to be confident in themselves, confident in their shots, confident in positions. I believe. The coaching staff believes. I need my wrestlers to believe that they belong in those positions.”

Hennick went 1-1 with a fall and Baker went 1-1 with a decision to lead the Warhawks.

West Fork will return to action at Saint Ansgar Invite on Saturday.
