A band of moderate to heavy snow is expected to move across north central Iowa this weekend, with local snowfall amounts reaching up to eight inches. Most of the northern half of the state can expect widespread totals between two and five inches.

The National Weather Service in Des Moines says snow will begin after 2:00 p.m. Saturday, first arriving in western Iowa by early afternoon. The system will continue pushing east, reaching the I-35 corridor by early evening before spreading into eastern Iowa Saturday night.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect from Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning for Franklin, Butler, Hardin, Wright and Grundy counties in the broadcast area.

Travel impacts are likely, especially during the evening and overnight hours as snowfall rates increase. Drivers are encouraged to monitor the latest forecasts and use caution on the roads.

More updates will be issued as the storm approaches. More information here.
