The Belmond City Council has scheduled a special meeting to advance two major 2026 projects, including the new aquatic center that voters overwhelmingly supported in the November election.
During the election, Belmond residents approved a bond referendum authorizing up to $3 million in city funding for the new pool. The measure passed with more than 91% support, receiving 600 yes votes to 59 no votes. With that mandate in place, the council will now begin taking formal steps to launch the project.
The special meeting will include a public hearing on the aquatic center proposal, followed by consideration of Resolution 2025-37, which would approve the project’s plans, specifications, form of contract and cost estimates. The council will then act on Resolution 2025-38, which would award the project’s construction contract.
The council will also hold a public hearing on the 2026 3rd Street Northeast Reconstruction Project, followed by votes on Resolution 2025-35 to adopt plans and cost estimates and Resolution 2025-36 to award the construction contract.
The special meeting of the Belmond City Council begins Monday at 6:30 p.m. at city hall.
