Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Boys Wrestling Won Cliff Keen Invite Title on Saturday

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows boys wrestling team united for a statement performance and earned the tournament title at the Cliff Keen Independence Invite on Saturday. The Cowboys finished first place out of 33 teams at the two day event with 329.5 points. 

The Cowboys had 10 wrestlers place inside the top eight, including four wrestlers who secured top 3 finishes. 

Dawson Beyer finished in first place at 157 pounds. Beyer went 6-0 with three falls and three decisions. Beyer won the first place match with a 9-5 decision over Greyson Willet from Pleasant Valley.  

Linden Phetxoumphone finished in second place at 132 pounds. Phetxoumphone went 5-1 with three technical falls, a fall and a decision. Phetxoumphone lost the first place match by a 4-0 decision to Gage Spurgeon of Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont.

Colin Sesker finished in third place at 165 pounds. Sesker went 6-1 with three falls, a technical fall, a major decision and a decision. Sesker started 3-0 before falling in the quarterfinal round by a 10-1 major decision. Sesker wrestled back through the consolation bracket and won the third place match by a 7-2 decision over Christopher Meyer of Independence. 

Easton Beyer finished in third place at 190 pounds. Beyer went 6-1 with two decisions, two falls, a technical fall and a major decision. Beyer started 4-0 before falling in the semifinal round by a 4-1 decision. Beyer wrestled back and won the third place match by a 15-2 major decision over Brody Shipler of Algona. 

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows will return to the mat for a North Central Conference triangular at Webster City on Thursday, December 11.
