Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig says newly announced federal assistance will offer short-term relief for farmers facing low commodity prices and high input costs. The Trump Administration this week unveiled a $12 billion package to support producers affected by current economic conditions and trade disruptions.

Naig says the financial pressure on farmers is impacting rural communities and the broader state economy. He welcomed the immediate aid but emphasized that farmers ultimately want stable, reliable markets for their products rather than government support.

He says key long-term steps are still needed, including securing expanded trade agreements, passing a modernized Farm Bill, increasing nationwide access to E15, and addressing high fertilizer costs. Naig says those actions would bring greater certainty and stability to agriculture in Iowa and across the country.
