North Butler will travel to Central Springs for a Top of Iowa-East basketball doubleheader Tuesday.
The Bearcat girls (2-1) will look to bounce back from their first loss, 53-40 to Newman Catholic on Friday. That night, a lopsided second quarter was the difference in an otherwise close game. Head Coach Jordan Nolz says especially in the two prior wins, the team has excelled in its passing.
“We’re scoring with different groups of people,” Nolz says. “A cool stat, 30 of our 39 makes are assisted on. So that’s an extremely high percentage. The seven of the other nine are probably off offensive rebounds. So there’s not really an assist off that. So assisting on 30 out of 39 over about 75 percent, that’s really impressive.”
Eden Wix has emerged as the leading scorer with 11.0 points per game.
Central Springs (1-2) is coming off its first win of the season, defeating Belmond-Klemme 34-30 Monday. No players have scored more than five points per game.
The North Butler boys (1-1) had a comeback fall short in Friday’s 47-46 loss to Newman Catholic. After being shut out in the first quarter, they outscored the Knights 24-8 in the fourth quarter to give themselves a chance. Wrigley Endelman leads with 17 points per game, followed by Jarrett Shear’s 12 per game.
The Panthers (0-3) have lost their games by an average margin of 30.
The doubleheader will start at 6:15 p.m.
