
The Clarksville girls and boys basketball teams will begin a two-game Iowa Star Conference road trip with a visit to Riceville for a doubleheader on Tuesday. It will air on 99 The Wave. The girls will be on the hunt for their first win in the series since 2020 and the boys first since 2023.
The Clarksville girls (3-1, 2-0 Iowa Star North) have won three games in a row, including over Janesville, Don Bosco and Nashua-Plainfield last week. Senior Paige Kampman has been electric with 19 points per game, while shooting over 35 percent from the field and three point range. The Indians defense has challenged opponents early on with 14.2 steals per game. Head Coach Ross Timmermans says the team will seek to improve offensive efficiency entering a road test.
“We need to continue to become more more efficient and develop some more chemistry with each other. Offensive chemistry and efficiency is where we’ve really got to make the most strides,” says Timmermans. “We’ve really got to lock in. Anytime you go up to Riceville, it’s going to be a battle. Their fans are passionate. There’s been passion about basketball there for the last five, six years. It’s going to be a big test for us. We’re excited about it.”
The Riceville girls (1-2, 0-2 Iowa Star North) have lost back-to-back games against Dunkerton and Tripoli. The Wildcats are working to make strides offensively, averaging 35 points per game. Senior Claire Zweibohmer leads the team with 9.5 points per game.
The Clarksville boys (0-3, 0-2 Iowa Star North) are on a three-game slide with losses to Janesville, Don Bosco and Nashua-Plainfield last week. The Indians are working on adjustments, after averaging 28.7 points per game and allowing 65 points per game to opponents in opening week. Camden Behrends leads the team with seven points per game.
The Riceville boys (2-1, 1-1 Iowa Star North) held on for a 54-53 win over Tripoli in conference play on Friday. Owen Smith has paced the team with 23 points per game at 47.4 percent from the field clip and leads the team with 16 rebounds per game.
Pregame coverage for the girls game will begin at 6:15 p.m. followed by the tip off at 6:30 p.m., and the boys game will follow in Riceville.
