The Hampton City Council Monday continued to discuss potential chicken regulations within city limits during their workshop meeting. The council discussed various topics including size of coop, number of hens allowed and permit fees. A draft list will be created for the council to finalize at a future meeting.
In other business, the council discussed two underground fuel tanks at the airport. The water department does ground water monitoring periodically with a drinking water well located within 300 feet of the tanks. When tested this fall, a sample came back with higher-than-normal TPH levels. The airport capital improvement plan includes a project that would remove the underground fuel tanks and replace them with an above the ground fuel tank. Given the age of the underground tanks, and recent testing, City Manager Ron Dunt is suggesting prioritizing this project and seeking FAA funds to help fund the project in fiscal year 2027. Consensus of the council was to proceed with the project and look into FAA funds to help with costs.
Parking regulations in the 300 block of 3rd Avenue Southeast were also discussed. The consensus of the council was to have no parking on the north and south sides of 3rd Avenue Southeast from 4th Street Southeast west to the alley. After the ordinance is drafted, a first reading will be held.
