Our part of the state is bracing for another round of winter weather just after strong winds threatened blizzard-like conditions which caused several school delays and even some cancellations. At the RadioOnTheGo studios in Hampton, early-December temperatures have swung from highs in the 30s to lows well below zero, with 3 inches of snow recorded on the 7th and a consistent snowpack since the month began.
The National Weather Service in Des Moines says accumulating snowfall is expected again today (Thu) and this (Thu) evening, with light icing possible in southern and western counties. More snow is forecast this weekend, particularly Saturday, followed by dangerous wind chills that could drop to 20 to 30 below zero Saturday night into Sunday morning.
Forecasters advise that travel may become hazardous, and residents are urged to prepare for worsening conditions and monitor updated forecasts which can be found by searching “National Weather Service Des Moines” or by visiting RadioOnTheGo.com/Forecast.
