The Clarksville boys and girls basketball teams prepare to defend their home court against Dunkerton in an Iowa Star Conference North doubleheader on Tuesday. It will air on 104.9 KLMJ.
The Clarksville boys (0-4, 0-3 Iowa Star North) enter off their most competitive game of the season, falling 45-44 to Tripoli in conference on Friday. Two Indians finished in double figures including Briggs Hoodjer with a season high 12 points and Camden Behrends added 11 points against the Panthers. Head Coach Jonah Woodward highlights keys facing a conference power like Dunkerton.
“Dunkerton has a very strong and rich history of boys basketball. That’s something we’re trying to change in Clarksville too and have that reputation. It’s going to be a great man-to-man defensive contest. I know they switch up their defenses a little bit. A lot of four out, one in, dribble drive stuff from Dunkerton. Their kids just play so well together on both ends of the court, ” says Woodward. “In that game it’s going to come down to taking care of it, rebounding it and defending it. If we can do those three things, we love our chances against Dunkerton. If we don’t do those three things, Dunkerton thrives off teams that don’t do those three things.”
The Dunkerton boys (3-1, 2-1 Iowa Star North) fell 55-42 at home to Janesville in conference on Friday. The scoring duo of Braiden Lauritzen with 16.8 points and Aidan Hesse with 16.2 points per game pace the Raiders.
In the girls game, it will be a battle for sole possession of first place in the Iowa Star Conference North.
The Clarksville girls (4-1, 3-0 Iowa Star North) have won four straight games including a 52-28 conference win at Tripoli on Friday. The Indians defense has challenged opponents allowing 33.8 points with 17.4 steals per game. Paige Kampman leads the Iowa Star North with 22 points per game. Hannah Wangsness has controlled the boards with 10 rebounds per game. Wangsness set the all time rebounding school record reaching 704 career boards at Tripoli on Friday.
The #7 (1A) Dunkerton girls (4-1, 3-0 Iowa Star North) has won back to back games including a 79-30 win at home over Janesville on Friday. The Raiders also have a stingy defense holding opponents 38.4 points per game. Kylee Pexa leads the team with 21.2 points per game, the second most in the Iowa Star North.
Pregame coverage will begin at 6:00 p.m. with the tip off at 6:15 p.m. for the girls game followed by the boys game.
