A Fort Dodge man has pleaded guilty in federal court to methamphetamine-related charges.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Iowa says 46-year-old Melvin Boone pleaded guilty Monday in Sioux City to one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a protected location.
According to court documents, Boone admitted that between October 2023 and March 2025, he and others conspired to distribute more than five pounds of methamphetamine in the Fort Dodge area. Authorities say Boone also admitted to distributing two ounces of methamphetamine in July 2024 to an individual cooperating with law enforcement within 1,000 feet of St. Edmond Catholic School in Fort Dodge.
Boone remains in the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending sentencing, which will be scheduled after a presentence investigation report is completed. He faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in federal prison and a possible maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
The case was investigated by the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, the Webster County Sheriff’s Office, the Fort Dodge Police Department and the Iowa DCI Criminalistic Laboratory, and is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
