Douglas Jensen, a Silver City resident and candidate for Congress in Iowa’s 4th District, announced Monday that he is withdrawing from the race, citing urgent family responsibilities.
Jensen says the decision comes as his wife, Lt. Col. Heidi Jensen, prepares for another overseas deployment after spending several months stationed away from home. The couple has two young children.
Jensen says balancing the demands of a congressional campaign, his executive role in commercial construction and full-time parenting is no longer realistic given the new military orders.
A decorated combat veteran and active-duty military spouse, Jensen says stepping away from the race was a difficult decision but the right one for his family.
Jensen thanked supporters and acknowledged the momentum his campaign had gained. He says he plans to remain active in civic life and community leadership.
Iowa’s 4th Congressional District includes Butler, Franklin, Grundy, Hardin and Wright counties.
