The Hampton-Dumont-CAL basketball teams were each defeated by Humboldt at home in a North Central Conference doubleheader Tuesday. The girls fell 35-27 and the boys lost 49-38.
In a low-scoring defensive battle, the girls teams were tied at 11 at halftime. The Wildcats extended the lead to as many as 13 in the second half before the Bulldogs made a late surge. MacKenzy Valley led with 13 points and 10 rebounds in what Head Coach Miranda Stafford described as a great defensive effort for the team. Humboldt had averaged 57 points per game entering the matchup.
In the boys game, the teams traded leads. After Humboldt led 11-7 through one quarter, the Bulldogs ramped up for a 17-6 advantage in the second, leading 23-16 at halftime. But the Wildcats took control with a 26-point effort in the third quarter while holding the Bulldogs to 14 points in the final 16 minutes.
They’ll return to action Friday by hosting St. Edmond.
