According to a news story from Radio Iowa, Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird is suing the online gaming company Roblox.
Bird says as many as two-thirds of children ages 9 to 12 have a Roblox account and that the company markets the platform as a safe space for children. The lawsuit alleges Roblox allows adults to hide behind avatars and communicate with children while they play games online.
Bird says the platform has become a place where sexual predators can target children. She is asking a judge to require Roblox to implement stronger safety measures or stop operating in Iowa.
In a statement on its website, Roblox says it dedicates significant resources to detecting and preventing inappropriate content and behavior. The company says it has introduced 40 new safety features over the past year, including expanded parental controls.
