A High Wind Warning is in effect for the western tier of Iowa counties, including the Sioux City area, while a Wind Advisory covers most of the state — including the entire RadioOnTheGo broadcast area. The National Weather Service in Des Moines says the advisory is in effect from noon today (Thu) through midnight tonight (Thu). West winds of 25 to 35 miles per hour are expected, with gusts reaching up to 50 miles per hour, and stronger gusts possible in the warning area.

The gusty winds may blow around unsecured objects such as holiday decorations, knock down tree limbs, and cause isolated power outages. Driving could be difficult at times, especially for high-profile vehicles, and motorists are urged to use extra caution.

Rain is expected early today (Thu), changing to scattered snow showers by midday. Temperatures will fall into the teens by late afternoon, with wind chills dropping below zero. Windy conditions continue into tonight (Thu), with gradual clearing and cold conditions expected to persist into Friday.
