Iowa gas prices fall again; local prices remain above state average

Gas prices across Iowa continue to trend lower this week.

According to AAA, the average price for regular unleaded gasoline in Iowa is now $2.48 per gallon. That’s down 5 cents from last week and 21 cents lower than this time a year ago.

Locally, as of this morning, prices remain slightly higher than the state average. Regular unleaded was priced at $2.69 per gallon in Hampton, $2.62 in Clarksville and $2.65 in Clarion.

The statewide average remains well below the national average, which stood at $2.91 on Wednesday, down 3 cents from last week.

Diesel prices also saw a notable drop. The average price for retail diesel in Iowa fell 11 cents this week to $3.39 per gallon. While that is higher than the $3.25 average recorded a year ago, Iowa diesel prices are currently 25 cents below the national average of $3.64.

Crude oil prices declined as well. West Texas Intermediate crude fell $1.87 per barrel this week to $56.25, while Brent crude dropped $1.88 to $59.91. One year ago, WTI crude was priced at more than $70 per barrel, with Brent crude topping $73.
