The Hampton-Dumont-CAL basketball teams will host St. Edmond for a crucial North Central Conference doubleheader Friday.
The Bulldog girls (2-4, 1-2 NCC) will look to make a jump in the standings, with a chance to move into the top half. With a roster that’s learning what it takes to compete at the varsity level, sophomore Bridget Brocka says a positive atmosphere has given them a boost of confidence even in tough times.
“It helps that we’re all really good friends,” Brocka says. “We’re able to joke around with each other. If we make a mistake, we keep each other up and keep giving each other good vibes, confirmation that you’re doing good, nothing’s wrong. You made a mistake, it’s alright. Get past it. And next play.”
The Gaels (2-2, 2-1 NCC) will look to bounce back from a 45-28 loss to Algona Tuesday. Freshman Eden Horn leads at 14 points per game.
The Bulldog boys (2-2, 1-1 NCC) will look for more consistent play after a roller coaster of a game in a loss to Humboldt Tuesday. St. Edmond (3-0, 3-0 NCC) has gained attention in several early-season polls as one of the top teams in Class 1A. Hunter Horn leads the conference with 29.3 points per game, the second-most in 1A.
The doubleheader will start at 6:00 p.m.
