The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball teams will host Iowa Falls-Alden on Friday night for a North Central Conference doubleheader, which’ll air on 104.9 KLMJ. The games serve as the final tune-up for all four teams before the holiday break.
The Cowgirls (0-6) continue to focus on development as they return to varsity competition after not fielding a varsity team last season. Sophomore Audrey Egland leads the Cowgirls in team scoring, rebounds, and assists. Head Coach Ashley Kahler says effort and chemistry have stood out early in the season.
“They’ve given a lot of heart and their attitudes are great and they have worked really hard just to get better and just forming that like team chemistry,” says Kahler. “So that’s really good to see throughout the, you know, couple first couple games that we’ve had that they’ve, you know, they never give up. They just keep fighting. So I can’t ask for anything else other than that right now from them.”
The Cadet girls (2-3) are coming off a 40-30 road win over Webster City on Tuesday night. Elody England leads the team in scoring and assists, while Danika Rieks leads the team in rebounds.
The Cowboys (3-2) will look for their second conference win of the 2025-26 campaign after defeating Humboldt last week. Head Coach Jason Berning says the final games before the break are important for setting the tone moving forward.
“We want to make sure that we’re finishing this first part of the season here in December on a high note with these last three games that we have and keep progressing as a team,” says Berning. “And uh there’s a lot of basketball to be played in January, but these next three games can really set the tone for the rest of the season for our team.”
CGD’s Chaz Lane is second in the conference in scoring with 80 points. Huxley Lingenfelter ranks second in the NCC with 41 rebounds.
The Cadets (1-3) are seeking their first conference win. Karson Kalous is fourth in the NCC in scoring with 58 points and ranks second in the conference in steals with 13.
The doubleheader will start at 6:15 p.m., with pregame coverage at 6 p.m.
