CGD Boys Wrestling had a standout performance at the Battle of Waterloo

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows boys wrestling team placed fourth out of 32 teams at the 2025 Dan Gable Museum Battle of Waterloo on Saturday. 

In the championship pool on Saturday, the Cowboys fell 37-36 to Don Bosco, fell 46-23 to Southeast Polk and lost 50-17 to Indianola. 

Against Don Bosco, the Cowboys won four matches by fall including Paxton Redenius at 120, Linden Phetxoumphone at 132, Colin Sesker at 165 and Easton Beyer at 190. Adrian Phetxoumphone at 138 and Dawson Beyer at 157 each won by decision. JT Kelso won via forfeit at 285. 

Against Southeast Polk, Easton Beyer at 190 and Joel Meir at 285 each won by fall. Sesker won by technical fall at 165. Cole Wibholm at 113 and Redenius at 120 won by decision. 

Against Indianola, Linden Phetxoumphone at 132 won by fall. Ryan Hartwig at 138 won by technical fall. Dawson Beyer at 157 and Easton Beyer at 190 each won by decision. 

To advance to the championship pool on Saturday, the Cowboys went undefeated in Bracket B on Friday. The Cowboys won 77-3 over Charles City, 41-31 over Ankeny and 37-31 over Pleasant Valley. 

The Cowboys top performers of the tournament, Easton Beyer went 6-0 at 190, Linden Phetxoumphone went 5-1 at 132 and Colin Sesker went 5-1 at 165. 

The tournament marked the final event for the Cowboys before the holiday break, with competition resuming in January.
