RADIO IOWA: Hinson says there’s more to do on health care

Radio Iowa photo: Ashley Hinson (R-Marion) hosted a campaign kick off rally in Cedar Rapids on Sept. 14, 2025.

The health care bill passed by House Republicans includes provisions for cost-sharing reductions, association health plans and increased transparency for pharmacy benefit managers. The legislation does not include a provision expanding health savings accounts.

U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson, a Republican who represents Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District — which includes Hardin, Grundy and Butler counties — says expanding HSAs will be a priority in the coming year as House Republicans continue work on health care policy.

Hinson says Republicans believe allowing individuals to put more money directly into HSAs is a better solution than extending enhanced premium tax credits, which Democrats have advocated. The bill also does not include an extension of those enhanced premium tax credits.
