The West Fork wrestling teams have begun holiday break. The Warhawk girls team is just over the halfway point of their season with one more month of regular season action. They’re coming off a ninth place finish at the Iowa Falls-Alden Girls Tournament on Friday, December 19.
Senior Jenny Ramirez is 15-6 at 145 with 13 falls and entered the break off a third place finish at the IFA tournament. Sophomore Josi Janssen is 12-1 at 140 with 10 falls and entered the break off a second place finish at the IFA tournament. They will return to action at RRMR Dual on January 8.
The boys are coming off a 10th place finish at the Ron Dodd Viking Invite at Northwood-Kensett on Saturday, December 20. Sophomore Jensen Robbins leads the team with a record of 6-8 and finished in second place at 215 with three falls at the Viking Invite. Head Coach Keaton Wilson highlights areas of improvement for their wrestlers to maximize each match.
“Really pushing the pace. Setting up those shots and then hitting those shots. We set them up, we just don’t take them. On the bottom position, we gotta improve at the bottom position. It hasn’t been our strongest position to say the least. We’re gonna constantly improve on that,” says Wilson. “Our conditioning’s pretty good, but we got a few kids that we gotta get in way better shape for the second half of the season.”
The Warhawk boys will return to action with a Top of Iowa quad at Lake Mills on January 8.
