Hampton-Dumont High School Entrance after 12/27 incident

Hampton-Dumont Superintendent Tim Felderman has shared details with families and the public following an incident Saturday (12/27) night at the high school. In a letter sent to students and parents and shared through the school’s social media channels, Felderman said a vehicle drove through the front of the building, continued through the cafeteria, and struck the lunch line door.

Hampton Police responded to the scene along with the district’s building and grounds staff. Felderman confirmed that no students or staff members were injured. RadioOnTheGo News has reached out to Hampton Police for additional details. The police dispatch log shows a hit-and-run call came in at 9:18 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Hampton Chronicle has reported that 64-year-old Kirk Gunderson of Hampton has been arrested in connection with the incident. According to the report, Gunderson was charged with operating while intoxicated and multiple traffic offenses. The Chronicle also reports Gunderson was held overnight at the Franklin County holding facility and released early Sunday morning.

A temporary enclosure has been placed at the front entrance to secure the building. Felderman says the administrative team will create a re-entry plan before students return to school Monday, January 5th, ensuring the building is safe and free of debris. Students are asked to watch for entrance updates and avoid the front of the building during cleanup.
