The Clarksville girls basketball team entered the holiday break with the second best record in the Iowa Star Conference North at 5-1 and 6-2 overall. The Indians are only one game behind #7 (1A) Dunkerton (their only conference loss) to claim first place in the conference entering 2026.
The Indians lead the Iowa Star North in points against (34.6), steals (16), blocks (4) per game and three point percentage (35.6 percent). Head Coach Ross Timmermans says defensive consistency and scoring output are a focus entering ‘26.
“I’d love to see our team continue to clean things up defensively. Then put together a really solid defensive 2026 because that’s going to be what we do the best,” says Timmermans. “Then continue to get that ball moving and keep it spicy. Hopefully we can put the ball in the bucket at a higher rate than we did in the first half of the season.”
At the break, Paige Kampman leads the conference averaging 20 points per game. She surpassed 1,000 career points in a win over Cedar Ridge Christian on December 19. Timmermans reaction to her achieving the milestone.
“It was very satisfying, very exciting. She’s one of only five girls to ever score over a 1,000 points in Clarksville girls basketball history. We’re really proud of her,” says Timmermans. “What makes it even more special is that she did it in basically two full seasons, which is really, really impressive.”
Hannah Wangsness leads the conference in assists (4.6) and steals (5.7) per game. Wangsness also leads the team with 9.9 rebounds per game. She set the all time rebounding school record surpassing 704 career boards in a win over Tripoli on December 12. Timmermans highlights what Wangsness brings to the floor.
“The way that she fills the stat sheet for her team every night, points, rebounds, steals and assists. She’s only 5’5″, which makes it even more impressive,” says Timmermans. “She’s on pace for roughly 900 rebounds, if she continues to rebound at the rate that she’s at right now. We’re impressed with her night in and night out with what she does.”
Adding to the team’s production depth, Eve Jordan added seven points per game (third most on the team) and Josie Anderson secured six rebounds per game (third most on the team) through their first eight games.
Clarksville will return to action by hosting Vinton-Shellsburg in non-conference on Monday, January 5.
