Iowa Falls-Alden and West Fork will resume their basketball seasons when they meet inside Casey’s Center as part of the Iowa Wolves High School Hoops Series Saturday. The games will air on 104.9 KLMJ and RadioOnTheGo’s YouTube channel.
In the boys game, each team will go for its second win of the season. West Fork Coach Abe Maske says they have an opportunity to build on the 52-38 win over Saint Ansgar in the final game of December.
“One can say sitting at 1-3 we’re in trouble, but we’re not,” Maske says. “We’re gonna find our groove. I’m confident in that. I think our kids experienced that in our win before break, and I think going down there and playing on the floor that will host state one more year for the boys side and seeing what the experience is like, I think will lend to some motivation to really not just work hard, but work even harder than we had coming in. So I think it’s a great opportunity. I’m looking forward to it and I’m looking forward to our kids getting that opportunity to play on that floor.”
The Cadets will look to snap a three-game losing streak as they continue to build depth. Head Coach Mike Holm hopes the team can gain a valuable experience by playing in the state tournament venue.
“I’m glad that worked out with West Fork,” Holm says. “Get the kids a taste of what your end result wants to be every basketball season. I like our start to the second half of the schedule here. I think there’s teams that we can compete with, and I think that’ll help us a lot getting some games that we can be competitive in to help build that confidence and give us some experience for the rest of the season.”
The Cadet girls will begin the new year on a two-game win streak, having defeated Clarion-Goldfield-Dows and Webster City in the final games of December. West Fork fell to Saint Ansgar to close 2025. With similar stat lines, it could be viewed as a toss-up.
