Franklin County Board of Supervisors meeting recap from Jan. 2

The Franklin County Board of Supervisors held a special organizational meeting Friday morning, Jan. 2, at the Franklin County Courthouse in Hampton.

During the meeting, supervisors appointed Chris Vanness as board chair for 2026 and Gary McVicker as vice chair. The board also set its regular meeting schedule for Tuesdays at 8:30 a.m. throughout the year.

Supervisors opened and tentatively awarded the 2026 ditch and roadway spraying contract to B&L Seeding, pending required documentation. The board approved a pay application for the courthouse roof project, renewed the county’s food pantry lease and authorized the auditor to apply for an Iowa Rural Heritage Revitalization Grant related to courthouse tuckpointing.

In other action, supervisors approved a resolution ordering an electrical services upgrade at the courthouse and set a public hearing and bid schedule for the project. The board also discussed funding options for upcoming courthouse improvements.
