Gas prices in Iowa continue downward trend

Gas prices across Iowa continue to trend lower, according to AAA.

The average price for regular unleaded gasoline in Iowa is now $2.38 per gallon, down 4 cents from last week and 38 cents lower than this time a year ago. The national average stands at $2.84, a decrease of 2 cents over the past week.

AAA reports crude oil prices also declined this week. West Texas Intermediate crude fell 23 cents to $57.86 per barrel, while Brent crude dropped 88 cents to $61.24. One year ago, West Texas Intermediate was priced at $72.44 per barrel, with Brent crude at $74.58.

Diesel prices in Iowa slipped slightly as well. Retail diesel is averaging $3.30 per gallon statewide, down 1 cent from last week. That price is 27 cents below the national diesel average of $3.57. One year ago, diesel prices in Iowa averaged $3.28.

Locally, GasBuddy reports regular unleaded prices Friday morning (Jan. 2) at $2.59 per gallon in Hampton, $2.49 in Parkersburg, and $2.67 in Eldora.
