Falcon Hoops beginning 2026 at GR Monday

Aplington-Parkersburg will resume the basketball season Monday with a conference doubleheader at Gladbrook-Reinbeck. It’ll air on 99 The Wave and RadioOnTheGo’s YouTube channel.

It’ll be another test for the girls against the #5 (1A) Rebels, the second straight ranked opponent. AP closed 2025 with four straight losses, including 59-14 to #6 (4A) Waverly-Shell Rock. In an effort to bounce back, Head Coach Brady Driscol says they’ve taken an analytical approach during the last two weeks of practices.

“We’ve been trying to do lot of competitions in practice, and lot of tracking of taking care of the ball, trying to play defense for a certain amount of time without giving up any points,” Driscol says. “We feel if our offense ever goes cold or we don’t have a great shooting night or something, we can always fall back on our defense to try to limit people to, you know, anything under 40 would be really good for us and try to win games that way in some rock fights. But we thought that our defense, the last couple of games, giving up 50, 60 plus points is not great for us. So getting back to our roots of good defense and scrappy play, we needed to get back to some of that. So hopefully we can carry some of that stuff over to some of these games now and hold steady on the defensive end. And hopefully that can kind of ignite and help our offense.”

Lorna Bernard leads with 10.9 points per game, followed by Kiara Morris at 10.6.

GR defeated #10 (2A) Grundy Center 48-46 in the final game of December, then defeated Wapsie Valley 56-37 Friday to begin January. Kennedy Brant leads the conference in points per game at 21.4 and rebounds per game at 12.4.

The Falcon boys will look to bounce back from the loss to Waverly-Shell Rock to close 2025. The Rebels have had a down season, with just one win so far.

The tipoff is scheduled for 6:15 p.m. with pregame coverage at 6:00.
