Clarksville Boys Basketball prepares for return to games

clarksville-4

The Clarksville boys basketball team is winless as they prepare to return to games off the holiday break. The Indians have been close to breaking through for their first win, with three games that were decided by 10 points or less, including a down to the wire 45-44 loss to Tripoli on December 12. Head Coach Jonah Woodward shares what he has learned about this year’s team.

“I think what we’re doing really well is our blue collar work ethic, with our attitude and our effort. I believe every single game we’ve played every coach we’ve talked to says, your kids just outworked us tonight. It’s not a backhanded compliment either because we obviously haven’t had the scoreboard results. Our kids are just grinding and scrapping on the defensive end,” says Woodward. “I’m a defensive minded coach first. Rebounding, I always want to establish that early on in the year. When we get back together, we’re going to keep building on our defense and rebounding. Then really fine tuning offensively what we do and working on individual skill development as well.”

The Indians have a balanced scoring effort led by Camden Behrends with 9.7 points per game. Harley Barnett adds 6.6 points per game and a team leading 6.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. Briggs Hoodjer has 6.3 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. Woodward says a goal in the new year is to add to scoring depth.

“We got guys going in the right direction. We just need about two or three more of those guys to step up on the offensive end. This team the way we play defense and rebound, if we get two or three more guys stepping up where we can get eight to ten points from them, it’s gonna be a fun team to watch.”

Clarksville will return to action by hosting BCLUW on Tuesday, January 6.
